Commander's Message

UPDATE 07/06/2014: Message from the Commander As we start our new VFW year, 2014-2015 I want to thank all the members that helped to make last year a success. I know that membership is an important part of the VFW organization and I trust all our members will pay their dues in a timely manner. We are losing. our World War II veterans at a high rate. The best way to recoup this loss is for every member to sign up just one new member. Just as important as membership are the many programs the VFW is known for. Poppys! Every post should order poppys as the donations collected from the distribution of these flowers goes directly back to your posts. Our national home in Michigan should be at the top of every post’s “To-Do List. As written in our national charter one of the purposes of this organization is to care for the veterans’ widow and orphans. Americanism and community activities go hand in hand. Have a ceremony at your post for Memorial Day, Veterans Day and Pearl Harbor Day. Make sure your local newspaper is aware of the event. Voice of Democracy and Patriot Pen contests. Talk with your school administrators or board of education trustees. They will be glad to help in most cases. Last but not least is veterans’ services. Every post has a service officer. Every service officer should be kept current on all VA programs so they can assist members and all veterans with filing claims for educational and health benefits as well as service connected compensation claims and survivors benefits. I am announcing that in lieu of the regular July District 2 meeting, we are having a special breakfast meeting on Sunday July 27, 2014 at 9:00 am at Post 809, 100 Main Street, Little Ferry, NJ. At this time all forms, applications and information will be available for every post commander or his/her delegate to pick up and bring back to your post. Thank you comrades, I’ll be looking forward to seeing you on the 27th. William A. “Bill” Weber Commander...
