A message from Auxiliary President Roseann Nemec
Comrades, brothers and sisters,
Once again thank you for the great honor of being installed as District 2 President for the ensuing year. It is an absolute privilege to serve you and our veterans. This year as you may know, we again had a joint installation. National Council of Administration member Bill Thomson installed both the District 2 VFW and District 2 Auxiliary. I’m grateful to be in a district were the VFW supports and respects its Auxiliary. For we are the husbands, wives, fathers, mothers, sons, daughters, brothers and sisters of our foreign war veterans. I look forward to working alongside District 2 Commander Paul Thompson and his officers, as we fulfill our program requirements. Together we will meet the challenges before us.
The biggest challenge that both the VFW and the VFW Auxiliary faces is a decline in membership. This last year we started with 11 Auxiliaries and ended with 9. And it looks like we will be losing another one this year. What can we do to build our membership? Are we actively seeking new members? What are we doing to make our organization more inviting to younger veterans and their families? We need to look at our bachelor Posts. Do these Posts already have family members helping at their functions that are eligible to join the VFW Auxiliary? Can an Auxiliary be formed at these Posts? If you have any questions on starting an auxiliary, please contact me. Let’s build our district together.
In closing, I would like to share a quote from Henry Ford, “Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success.” Together, the VFW and the VFW Auxiliary will succeed. With this I would like to wish everyone a blessed, prosperous and a great 2019/2020 year.
